Vatican offers swap deal to regain Site of Last Supper

The Vatican is hoping to regain control of the Room of the Last Supper in Jerusalem, one of the most sacred sites in Christianity. It will, in exchange, hand over to the Jewish community the historic synagogue at Toledo in Spain, at present a Catholic church. The proposals, contained in a draft agreement between the Israeli Government and the Vatican, come on the eve of a state visit to the Vatican next month by President Katzav. The Room of the Last Supper is the fourth most holy place in Christendom after the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth, and the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Odd how Christians can have their four most holy sites, Muslims are allowed to have their mythological holy sites, but Jews are not entitled to their holiest site, the Temple Mount. It becomes quite clear, folks, that the only religious argument that ever makes sense is to point out how so many Jewish holy sites exist in Israel. It’s hardly irrational that Jews should want to live near the Wailing Wall or other sites of great importance in Jewish history and religion, particularly given the fact how poorly Muslims have treated Jewish holy sites. The hypocrisy of Islam is, at times, unbearable and, all the time, purely evil.
