Letter to Our Friends
Dear Friend,
As you know, sixty-one years ago, Raoul Wallenberg saved tens of thousands lives from Nazi death camps. He also dared to oppose Adolf Hitler’s extermination plans in Hungary.
On January 17th, 1945 he was seized by the Soviet Army and to this day his whereabouts and fate remain a mystery. The official Soviet line has always been that he suffered a heart attack and died in 1947. However, there is not a single proof that supports this argument and, moreover, there are reports of people that met Wallenberg right into the 1970s and 1980s.
Now we consider that the time is ripe to put an end to this sad chapter of history. Therefore, we take the liberty to address you as one of the more than 22,000 friends who signed our on-line campaign that helped create worldwide awareness on the Wallenberg case.
There is only one person that can solve this outrageous enigma: the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. We draw to your attention this fact in case you may decide to write to Mr. Putin asking him to help find the fate and whereabouts of Raoul Walelnberg. We hope that in the meeting with Mr. Baruch Tenembaum, founder of the Wallenberg Foundation, we may find a way to close this tragic chapter and celebrate Mr. Putin’s historic gesture of justice.
