From Gaza’s Christians Fear for Their Lives: Latin Church Torched: Christians living in Gaza City on Monday appealed to the international community to protect them against increased attacks by Muslim extremists. Many Christians said they were prepared to leave Gaza as soon as the border crossings are reopened. The appeal came following a series of attacks on a Christian school and church in Gaza City over the past few days. Father Manuel Musalam, leader of the small Latin community in Gaza, said masked gunmen torched and looted the Rosary Sisters School and the Latin Church. “The masked gunmen used rocket-propelled

From Hamas Activists Burn Gaza Church: Hamas activists broke into a Greek Orthodox church in Gaza, stole its contents, and set on fire an adjacent monastery. They also attacked a school for nuns. PA Chairman Abbas condemned the attack as a “barbaric act” and called on the Palestinian people to unite against Hamas. He added, “Now they are attacking holy sites and places of prayer.” Abbas condemned it because it was a church; if it had been a synagogue with Israeli athletes in it, he would have approved. Folks, you did know that Mahmoud Abbas is also the same person

From Declining Christian Population a Fact of Life in Arab Societies: “There are 12 million Christians in the Middle East. If the current trend continues, there will be fewer than 6 million by 2025,” says Hilal Khashan, political science chair at the American University of Beirut. Christians have been a traditional bridge between the mainly Muslim Middle East and the largely Christian West. Without them, says Nina Shea, director of the Washington-based Center for Religious Freedom, “we’ll see greater Islamization of the people who stay behind.” Throughout the Middle East, Christians complain that they are in the worst of all

I can’t believe this is happening in the great state of Texas. Via WND: A Texas imam who at one point participated in a “tribute to the great Islamic visionary” Ayatollah Khomeini, has offered a prayer to open the state Senate that excluded both Christians and Jews. “Oh, Allah, guide us to the straight path, the path of those whom you have favored, not of those who have earned your wrath or of those who have lost the way,” prayed Imam Yusuf Kavakci of the Dallas Central Mosque. Islam, of course, teaches that Jews and Christians both have earned the

Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, writing in The Times of London during a four-day swing through the region, bemoaned the state of Christians in the Muslim world. “Iraq’s Christian population is dropping by thousands every couple of months and some of their most effective leaders have been forced to emigrate. In Istanbul, the Orthodox population is a tiny remnant, and their patriarch is told by some of the Turkish press that it’s time he left. In Egypt, where Christian-Muslim relations have been – and still are – intimate and good, attacks on Christians are notably more frequent,” Williams wrote. The

Reports that Israel is considering allowing a group of gunmen who were deported in 2002 after hiding inside the Church of the Nativity to return home have left some Christian residents here seriously concerned for their safety. Thirteen of the gunmen were deported to different European countries, while another 26 were expelled to the Gaza Strip. The gunmen, belonging to both Fatah and Hamas, were holed up in the church for 39 days before European mediators reached a deal with Israel according to which the fugitives would be permitted to walk out unharmed.
