Support for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has hit new depths with the results of a poll by a major surveying firm that shows 55 percent of the public wants him out of office. The poll was carried out by Brain Base (Ma’agar Mohot) and sponsored by the Israel Policy Center for Promoting Parliamentary Democracy and Jewish Values in Israeli Public Life. More than three-quarters of new immigrants responded that Prime Minister Olmert should be replaced, while most Kadima supporters want him to remain in office.
Previous polls have showed that he would fare poorly if new elections were held, but none of the surveys had asked respondents if he should leave office.
Almost two-thirds of the respondents also stated they oppose massive demolitions of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. Prime Minister Olmert Tuesday night told officials of the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria (Yesha) that the land in those areas is an “integral part” of Jewish history and identity, but he concluded that most of it should be surrendered.
