From September 2000 through the most recent attack Jan. 18 at a Gaza checkpoint, Palestinian suicide bombings have left more than 4,000 victims – 533 killed and 3,523 injured – in 98 separate attacks documented by the Israeli Foreign Ministry. For this story, the families of eight killers were interviewed, who accounted for 82 dead and 628 wounded Israelis. The bombings, many of the killers’ relatives now concede, fed a national passion at a terrible cost.
