Three Israelis were killed and another eight wounded in cross-border attacks by Hizbollah guerrillas from Lebanon on Wednesday, the Israeli rescue service ZAKA said.
The identities of the dead were not immediately clear. Hizbollah said it captured two Israeli soldiers under cover of shelling against northern Israeli communities and army outposts.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert described the Hizbollah attacks as an “act of war” by Lebanon and promised a “very painful and far-reaching” response.
