American Al-Qaeda member to be indicted for treason

Adam Yahiye Gadahn, 28, the American al-Qaeda spokesman known as “Azzam the American,” was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles, charged with material support and treason – the first time an American has been charged with treason since 1952. Gadahn appeared in a video posted on an Islamic militant website last month together with al-Qaeda’s No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

What is treason? U.S. Constitution Article 1 Section 8 Clause 15 states: “The Congress shall have Power to provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions” and U.S. Constitution Article 4 Section 4 states: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion”.
